Public and Global Health Nursing

To fulfill the clinical practicum for the public and global health nursing course, students in their third or fourth semester participate in one of ten public and global health sites. This experience provides a unique opportunity to put nursing skills into practice while being immersed in a different culture and healthcare system.

Learning the Importance of Healing in Ecuador

This past spring, BYU nursing students had the opportunity to spend three weeks learning and practicing the Healer's art in Ecuador. In addition, they experienced healthcare in and out of the hospital setting: volunteering in the community, shadowing nurses, and learning about traditional healing.

Students Practice the Healer's Art in Poland

This past spring, a group of nursing students traveled to Finland and Poland for their public and global health nursing course clinical practicum. The students planned to spend five weeks working in hospitals to refine their nursing skills. However, their schedule changed as the trip grew closer. “While we were in Finland, the nurses were on strike,” nursing student Symbria Lewis explained. Despite these circumstances, the students gained clinical experience through performing pediatric assessments and serving the Finnish community in other ways.

Students Expand Cultural Awareness in the Czech Republic
